Factory’s Profile

Factory Theatre is a vibrant centre of new play development and presentation, with the proud by-line, “Home of the Canadian playwright.” Located in the heart of downtown Toronto, we produce a full season of all-Canadian plays, many of them world premieres. The Factory is edgy and contemporary, with a mandate predicated on creative risk. We are a two-theatre facility: the MainSpace is a traditional, 200-seat theatre capable of large-scale productions. In our Studio Theatre, the flexible 100-seating style allows for innovative works and experimental forms of presentation, as well as development and outreach activities.

To engage, enlighten and entertain Canadian audiences with the imagination of diverse Canadian playwrights and theatre artists and to develop, support and present the work of Canadian theatre creators whose unique theatrical voices attract and engage the imagination of our diverse audience.

Factory’s Professional Affiliations

Factory is an active member of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres, Theatre Ontario and Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts. Factory engages artists under the terms of the Canadian Theatre Agreement, Associated Designers of Canada and the Playwright’s Guild of Canada.
