Ronnie Burkett Theatre of Marionettes
PENNY PLAIN
BY RONNIE BURKETT
January 20 – February 26, 2012
Extended to March 4! Six performances added!
Mainspace Theatre
An end-of-the-world romance told heartbreakingly, horrifyingly and hysterically, as only Burkett can.
Penny Plain sits in her overstuffed chair, listening to the news of civilization’s inevitable end and then the outside chaos invades her sanctuary. With a cast including survivalists, a serial killer, a cross-dressing banker, talking dogs and mysterious strangers, Penny Plain is a poignant and disturbing drawing room comedy of apocalyptic proportions.
Ronnie Burkett is recognized as one of Canada’s foremost theatre artists and has been credited with creating some of the world’s most elaborate and provocative puppetry. His company, Ronnie Burkett Theatre of Marionettes, sparked a renaissance in adult puppet theatre – continuously playing to great critical and public acclaim across Canada and throughout the world. 2011/12 marks the 25th anniversary of Theatre of Marionettes, celebrated with a national and international tour of Penny Plain.
PLEASE NOTE: Penny Plain starts promptly at 8pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays, and at 2pm on Sundays - absolutely no latecomers will be admitted. Penny Plain is one hour and 40 minutes long, with no intermission.
This production is intended for adult audiences only, ages 14+. Children under the age of 14 will not be admitted.
