Bio

Abi Akinlade (she/her) is a Nigerian-Canadian(-American) actor and writer based in Toronto. She has performed in film and theatre productions throughout the city, including Hair (Thaumatrope Theatre), don’t cry when constellations beg to burn (CDTPS), and staged readings with Factory Theatre and Theatre of the Beat. She is a University of Toronto graduate, holding a BA in English Literature and Drama. She is also a cohort member of the inaugural theatre criticism program Page Turn. Storytelling is what brought her to theatre, literature, and film, and she has loved telling them since she was little. As a multidisciplinary artist, she is deeply passionate about original works with themes surrounding Black and African identity, womanhood in all its iterations, and growing pains. With works that she creates and engages with, her hope is to uncover a deeper sense of self and, ultimately, stretch the boundaries of her creative imagination.
