Bio

Claren Grosz is a queer director, writer, visual artist and Artistic Director of Pencil Kit Productions. She has directed ten fully staged productions including eight world premiers. Recent works include co-directing Reina by Augusto Bitter (Buddies in Bad Times, PKP 2025) and creating I love the smell of gasoline (Expanse Festival 2025, Nightwood Theatre 2023, RUTAS Festival 2022). She made her film directorial debut with Cat Sitters, a horror-comedy short that premiered at the Inside Out Festival in 2025. She’s the recipient of the 2018 Ken MacDougall Emerging Director Award and the 2015 My Entertainment World Outstanding Direction (Small Theatre) Award and was nominated for the 2023 Dora Mavor Moore award for Outstanding Projection Design. She’s also written and illustrated a chapbook of poetry, starting with the roof of my mouth, which was published by Gap Riot Press (2022). www.claren.ca
