Makram is an Alberta-raised, Toronto-based, multi-hyphenated, Lebanese-Canadian, community-engaged, theatre artist, educator, and academic (phew!). His theatre work is currently concerned with representing queer Arab voices. As a playwright and performer, he creates culturally specific work that speak into a Canadian context. The first play of his Between the Spirit and the Skin Trilogy, Harun, was developed at the Banff Center’s Playwrights’ Lab in 2018 and nominated for two Elizabeth Sterling Hayes Awards for Best New Play (Fringe Category) and Best Production (Fringe Category). Most recently, his play, The Green Line, had a successful run at the Edmonton Fringe Festival and was selected for an extended run at the festival’s Hold Over series. He holds an MFA in Theatre Performance Creation from York University. His hope and fundamental driving desire is to impact the communities he speaks into in positive and steadfast ways.
