Bessie Cheng is a Chinese Canadian playwright and performer, who recently graduated from Theatre at York University, where she specialized in Devised Theatre and Playwriting. Her creative interests include creating more culturally diverse work in Canadian theatre and telling stories from her roots. She recently co-created and wrote Silk Bath, which after a successful run at Toronto Fringe 2016, was brought back to Next Stage Festival this winter. Her recent works include: Silk Bath (Next Stage Festival) Ultrasound (Preshow performance, Cahoots Theatre Company), Aperture (Deviser/Performer, Summerworks), Paperweight (Playwright/Performer, Hamilton Fringe 2015), and Potluck XII (Playwright, fu-GEN). She is thrilled joining The Foundry this year, where she will finally have to buckle down and write the play she’s been trying to write for three years! She is greatly thankful for the support of this program and Factory Theatre for making this happen.
