Charo Foo Tai Wei

Bio
Charo Foo Tai Wei is a multidisciplinary performing artist. Trained in classical Chinese dance (with Mme Lee Shu Fen) and contemporary dance (l’École de danse de Québec), she toured internationally with Ex Machina in Robert Lepage’s The Blue Dragon. Since discovering Butoh in 2015 through Natsu Nakajima and Yukio Waguri, her work now intertwines classical Chinese dance with the visceral physicality of Butoh, exploring trauma, transformation, and resilience. Works include Jin Gu Bang (The Golden Stick Ritual) (CanAsian Dance Festival 2019; Tangente/Festival Accès Asie) and Yearning (Tangente; Festival Accès Asie 30th anniversary). Recent theatre credits include the Stratford Festival (Salesman in China, Wendy and Peter Pan), Carried by the River (Red Snow Collective), and Countercurrents (MBC Productions).
