Factory Theatre is Toronto’s home for cutting edge Canadian performance. As the first and longest running theatre company in the city dedicated exclusively to the creation and production of new Canadian work, Factory Theatre has been at the forefront of theatrical innovation in this country since 1970.
In our 55-year history, we’ve premiered over 300 new plays on our stages and produced 600 more in workshops and other formats. In the last decade alone, over 150 emerging artists have come through our training programs, and dozens more participate every year.

Productions
Bringing a full-scale production to stage requires a significant and long-term investment. From commissioning, development support, and workshop fees to production costs and compensation for creative team members throughout the process, Factory makes meaningful investments in new work at ALL stages of its development, from inception to production.

Audience enrichment
Each new show in our season presents a unique opportunity for us to enrich our audience’s experience. Whether it’s through a post-show talkback, an arts market, or community meal that ties to the themes explored in the show; Factory Theatre deepens the experience of the work we put onstage by inviting our community to be part of our story.

Our Space
Factory is not just a theatre, it’s a community hub for artists, audiences, and our community members alike. In addition to shows in our season, we regularly host indie theatre productions, festivals, and special events for artists. For emerging creators and alum of our Training Enhancement Programs, we rent our Rehearsal Hall at either a highly subsidized rate or at not cost at all.
