Support the Training Enhancement Programs at Factory Theatre
Unlike any other emerging artist program currently offered in the city, Factory Theatre’s Training Enhancement Program is a paid opportunity that teaches artists practical skills, offers real world experience, and provides invaluable mentorship and fellowship across theatrical disciplines – all in the context of workshop and new play development processes.
Led each year by our Associate Artistic Director Kalale Dalton-Lutale and a curated team of program facilitators, TEPs has a playwriting, directing, and acting stream that train together and separately over the course of an intensive which wraps each June. The program culminates with a final presentation in the Studio Theatre, featuring excerpts of the playwrights’ work brought to life by the directors and actors.
Why Your Support Matters
Investing in TEPs means you wholeheartedly believe in the next generation of Canadian theatre artists. You want to ensure that emerging playwrights get time, space, and dramaturgical support to create, workshop, and present their work. You believe that emerging directors deserve the chance to hone their aesthetic, communicate their vision, and practice leading a room. You know how important it is that emerging actors have the training and skills to participate meaningfully in new play development processes with originating roles.
When theatre creation is embedded into artist training, it becomes core to artists’ practices. That’s why an investment in TEPs is an investment in the future of Canadian theatre.
“TEPs has been a wonderful bridge between my theatre school training and real industry practice…
This program provides a fantastic container/structure for artists of different artistic disciplines to collaborate, create, and learn.”
Kendelle Parks (Acting Cohort, 24/25)
The trust I felt was given right from the get go…I felt like a valued artist the second I walked in…
I really can’t understate what a program like this does for your confidence as you navigate your artistic identity.”
Millie Herridge (Acting Cohort, 24/25)
Where Your Donation Goes
Factory Theatre relies on the generosity of our donors to support our Training Enhancement Programs. Here are some of the ways your donation will be used.
PARTICIPANT Fees
We compensate artists who participate in these programs not only because their work is inherently valuable, but because their work brings value to our space. For us, TEPS is just as much about Factory Theatre nurturing the next generation of theatre artists as it is about recognizing what their artistry brings to Factory.
Your support ensures that this cycle can continue.
FACilitator Fees
We engage expert facilitators who are deeply immersed in their craft. Past facilitators have included Gillian Clark (Playwriting), Makram Ayache (Directing), and Khadijah Roberts-Abdullah (Acting).
Your support allows us to meaningfully compensate our facilitators for sharing their practices with our participants.
With 55 years under our belt, we can proudly say that generations of Canadian artists have honed their craft at Factory Theatre. Invest in TEPS today and invest in the future of Canadian theatre.
Why not make it monthly?
Did you know that 2025/26 is our 55th anniversary season? To celebrate our status as the longest running theatre company in Toronto to produce exclusively Canadian plays, we’ve launched a Factory 55 Monthly Donor Campaign.
Here’s why monthly donations matter for TEPs.
- Consistent and reliable support allows us to plan further ahead and make TEPS an even richer learning opportunity for current artistic streams.
- Expand programming to reach even more artistic disciplines that intersect with new play development.
Our goal is that by the end of June 2026, 55 members of our community will step up to become monthly donors of Factory Theatre. Will you help us continue to nurture the next generation of Canadian theatre makers?
