Carl and Anna take a fantastical trip to Europe to escape the reality of Carl’s terminal illness. The siblings indulge in wild and absurd escapades while also grappling with the harsh reality of Carl’s impending death. This heart-wrenching and hilarious epic; explores themes of love, death, and the power of imagination to help us cope with difficult situations. Ultimately serving as a tribute to the brother-sister relationship and the power of the imagination to help us cope with the harsh realities of life.
Content Warning
This play contains mature content, including the use of drugs on-stage; themes of PTSD in the aftermath of war and death. Also filled with coarse language, simulated sex scenes, partial nudity, loud noises, strobe lights, and the use of haze/fog machines.
About the Director
John Cleave
John Cleave is a director, designer, and playwright. He’s in his third year of completing a Theatre Specialist Degree at the Centre for Drama, Theatre & Performance Studies. Born and raised in Toronto, he grew up with a passion for theatre at a young age. Constantly watching and developing work for the stage. In high school, he directed Susan Glaspell’s Trifles, which won him the Award of Excellence for Directing at the NTS Drama Festival back in 2018. This is his first show directorial debut for UC Follies and is incredibly excited to share this magnificent play with Toronto audiences.
