TEP’s directing program offers three early career directors the opportunity to develop the specific skills needed for the creation and direction of new plays. Over a residency period the selected directors will participate in masterclasses, readings, and workshops. The intensive will culminate in each director leading a rehearsal room and directing one of three new works written by playwrights in the unit and performed by the acting cohort.
During our program the three selected artists will be guided by mentors who will provide one-on-one support to expand their practices, while also offering hands-on experience workshopping and staging new work.
Our Intensive offers:
- Experience directing a company of actors
- Opportunity to direct a new work
- Membership in a small theatre cohort
- Participation in masterclasses, as well as readings and workshops designed to build your skills in new work creation
- Working collaboratively with one of the playwrights from the unit and directing their final presentation
- Running a workshop/rehearsal process
- An honorarium
Opportunities:
- Building communication skills for workshops and readings with actors and playwrights
- Giving clear notes to actors & creating a vision for the presentation
- Building working relationships with other theatre creators (both emerging and established artists)

- Folx who identify as early career artists
- Artists who have a passionate interest in Canadian theatre, new play development
- Artists with a high skill level in your field
- Artists with a sense of humour and an openness to collaboration
