TEP’s playwriting intensive is a new work creation group for three early career writers to develop a draft of short new works over a residency period. Throughout the residency intensive, playwrights will participate in masterclasses, generating sessions, readings, and workshops leading to a draft script that will be acted and directed by the other two TEP’s cohorts.
During this condensed play development process, the three selected artists will be guided by their mentors and dramaturgs who will provide one-on-one support.
Our Intensive offers:
- Opportunity to create a new work
- Membership in a small theatre cohort
- Participation in masterclasses, readings and workshops designed to build your skills in new work creation
- Working collaboratively with a director from the unit
- Participation in workshops/rehearsal processes
- An honorarium
Opportunities:
- Receiving edits and feedback on your work
- Building communication skills with directors and actors
- Flexing your writing muscles in a concentrated period
- Discovering your needs as a writer in readings & workshops
- Writing towards a presentation
- Building working relationships with other theatre creators (both emerging and established artists)

- Folx who identify as early career artists
- Artists who have a passionate interest in Canadian theatre and new play development
- Artists with a high skill level in your field
- Artists with a sense of humour and an openness to collaboration
